What Is It That You Cannot Forgive?

What is it that you cannot forgive?
That lie, that you haven’t told before
A heart that has not hurt and heal
What is that you cannot forgive?
That word that was beautiful
From that tongue that once kissed you
That friendship that once made you full
What is it that you cannot forgive?
That hit that hurt you
From those hands that once caressed you
Look, marriage is like friendship
Like a childhood friendship that stretches through the years
It mustn’t be like teenage romance that is intense just in the moment
But its like brotherhood, sisterhood
Its nothing like the world says it is
Its not like the movies, books
So what is that you cannot forgive?

Words Are Better

They say that a gold string should run through
So that they can see
So that they can understand
They say that paragraphs and sentences should align
Brief with so much precision
They say that details are great
But with twitter everyone wants point
What to do?
What are things we should now do?
So here’s the thing
I’m thinking of the so many great books I have read
I’m thinking the several great words that were said
Often they weren’t precise
And they were not twitter size
I’m thinking of the study of great men
And the spectacular lives they led
Precision may not have been far fetched
But comprehension may demand the code stretch
I think of Da Vinci
I think of Dan Brown
Of Adiche
And the tales of Madiba’s town
I think of secrets waiting to be found
Of words that will forever be unknown
Then I return to think of tweets
Of my phone, and my wrongly spelled verbal bits
I want more than that
I want more than a tweet
I want you to write a sullen letter
 A lengthy love chocolaty grit
I want you to write to my mind
To write on my paper
I need you to read to me
So that your voice and lip colour I’d remember
You can tweet me every now and then if you want
But I’ll still look forward to your letter
Tweets and bits are cute and new
Well written words will always be better.

The One Left Behind

I have two eyes on my face
Two ears by my head
I have two paths on my way
Two sides to which my hips sway
I have spirit and soul
Together they don’t run foul
I have two hands too
One beautiful
The other similarly so
One gets the praise
And to heaven it is raised
While the other gets the chill
The isolation and the frill
My left hand
It never gets anything
They hardly accept her
They hardly respect her
When I stretch her out
Their cultural norms I flout
My left hand
Always to my sides
So beautiful she is
Like her sister and the Great God inside
Wasn’t she carved from dust?
Doesn’t she bath?
Isn’t she clothed?
Isn’t she free?
Isn’t she a similarly beautiful side of me?
My perfect left hand
Unfortunately, the one I once left behind
Write with me now, dance
Paint freely, take your chance
Those won’t shake you won’t touch me
Because without you
I’ll be living incompletely
My hand, the first and same as the other
Like the two eyes on my face
Like brother and brother
Don’t run foul
Stay here and flare
Don’t be hidden from the world’s interesting glare.

Heleleh

I’ve got flames in my hands
Green flames of Heleleh
I’ve got flames in my Spirit
To sow and restore
I’ve got flames in my Soul
I wield the serpent rod
I’ve got flames in my Mind
Storms of light in a flesh pod
I’m the reality of Heleleh
I’m everything and more
I’m outstanding
Simple yes, but Extra-ordinarily Heleleh
I’ve got Flames in my hands
Burning bright green
I’ve got the storm of history
Binding me, setting free
I’m the distinctness of Heleleh
The formlessness of Him
I’m everything and more
I’m the sweetness of Heleleh
The first here, the only on this shore

Heleleh: Incredible, God.

His Loving Doings

His Love is huge
It raptures me everyday
He lives in me
He inspires me in every way
He turns me around
When the paths turn evil
And he carries me on
When I feel weak and feeble
He believes in my weakness
But He celebrates my strength
He does great things
His Love does not repent
I have stretched His Love
And I have gone the wrong goings
But His Love is here
And so is He, ever growing.

Odogwu is not mine, I think

Dear Nnanna, Good morning. Kedu? It is not often that I write because the life of a newlywed is quite the project. Unfortunately, the hone...
